sister Spirit—set me ablaze

leave behind the ashes of the girl
who assimilated, stayed silent, and appeased
let the wind scatter away those remnants of me

burn away my belief that disappearing was righteous
find the girl who hid herself away in the locked
rooms of her psyche, assuming it was safer
to be suppressed than to live in my truth
