First Look: My New Author Photos and the Inspiration for the Photoshoot

Help me vote for which author photo to use!

I just need a moment to say how incredibly talented my friend Sandy is. I reached out to her and asked if we could do an author photoshoot (because the headshot I send everyone is an iPhone selfie). I told her that I didn’t want a normal “smile at the camera” photo, I wanted to look like a cross between Beyonce in her music video for “Water" and Solange in “A Seat at the Table.” In other words: I’m inspired by the creative Black genius of two women who released themselves from the white gaze. Sandy said “say less” and together (with her sister as an assistant) we formed a mighty photoshoot team.
